About Our Local Office

Joyce and Jim Newport
Right at Home

Welcome to Right at Home – a non-medical in-home care agency providing quality care to senior and disabled persons since 1995.  Our locally owned office serves Alamo, Blackhawk, Canyon, Danville, Diablo, Dublin, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Orinda, Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton, Rossmoor, San Ramon, Walnut Creek and surrounding areas.

Right at Home’s mission is to improve the quality of life for our very special clients and their families. Personally touched with the challenges of caring for a loved one while still managing our own careers and household, we know firsthand about the desire to take care of everything ourselves, and the nagging uncertainty about bringing a “stranger” into your loved one’s home.

Because of this, our Companions and licensed Personal Care Assistants have been selected with great care.  We perform extensive background checks on every applicant, including review of criminal and DMV records and abuse registries, and random drug checks.  Each of our caregivers is tested for competence and evaluated for the qualities we value so highly -- integrity, reliability and empathy.

The very special caregivers that we accept are our employees - not contractors - and are bonded and insured for your protection.  We pay the necessary payroll taxes and have standard business liability and workers compensation insurance.  Our exclusive Right at Home training program ensures that our caregivers clearly understand how to meet clients’ needs with respect and compassion.  After our rigorous reviews of each applicant, our ultimate criteria is "would I give the house keys to this person to take care of my own mom?"  That we can be confident in helping our clients with this decision is our driving passion.  To top it off, our caregivers are passionate about what they do, and it shows through in the quality of care they provide to our clients.

Through a comprehensive inquiry process, we are able to match just the right caregiver to our client -- but the final decision is always yours. We work with you to develop a personalized plan of care, delivered wherever you or your loved one calls home -- private residence, independent senior living community, assisted living, group home, skilled nursing/rehab or acute hospital facility. The care plan is monitored through periodic follow-up supervisorial home visits to ensure services provided by our caregivers continue to match our clients’ changing needs. We also encourage our clients and caregivers to provide feedback to us on how we can further develop and enhance our services. Family members gain peace of mind knowing their loved one is in safe hands while receiving quality care, guidance and supervision from a Right at Home Associate.

Whether it's a temporary need for extra assistance after a stay in the hospital, or an aging parent who needs extra help or companionship to remain safely and independently in their home, or respite for the family member who cares for an ailing loved one, Right at Home can be your trusted source to help.

The Pleasant Hill office of Right at Home is owned and operated by Joyce and Jim Newport. Through our personal experience with family members experiencing the challenges of aging and chronic illness, we have come to appreciate the impact that we can have by focusing on quality individualized service to members of our community.

Joyce and Jim have lived in the East Bay since 1980. Over the last three decades, they have prepared for an opportunity such as this - to add value to the lives of others, and help seniors remain safely and independently in their own homes.

Joyce, a native San Franciscan, left the corporate world in favor of opening the Right at Home office in Contra Costa County because she felt a desire to become a more integral part of her community.  "After having firsthand experience helping my parents in their Walnut Creek home during the first few years after my mother’s diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, I realized that there is a very urgent need for assistance with caregiving. Not all families are able to put their professional and personal lives on hold in order to care for a loved one that needs some extra help in order to remain in their own home."

Jim moved to California from his Canadian birthplace in 1953 and holds an MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Having been Controller for three small companies, he decided to team up with Joyce in her passion -- PROVIDING QUALITY HOME CARE TO ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES AND SENIORS.

Our loved ones are the most important aspect of our lives, and finding quality service to care for them should not be a difficult task. We believe that giving the highest level of service should always be our top priority, and we are committed to delivering it to our referral partners and our clients, day in and day out.  We are on call 24/7 – when you call our office, you will talk with one of us – not an answering service.

To achieve our goals we:

·         Regularly communicate with our clients and the client’s family members

·         Individualize each client's care based on their needs by performing an in-home assessment and continually reviewing the care plan to ensure our services match our client's changing needs

·         Respond promptly to referrals for homecare assistance from case managers, social workers and other healthcare professionals in our community

Our caregivers are available to help with a variety of homecare needs including:

·         Short-term home care after a hospital stay

·         Assistance for loved ones who would like to remain at home

·         Extra one-on-one care and attention in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, independent living     facilities or even during a hospital stay
